Barney’s Rugby Run: Banana Moon network supports world-record attempt for charity

Barney’s Rugby Run: Banana Moon network supports world-record attempt for charity
At Banana Moon Day Nursery, we love to get involved with our local communities, and our Head Office (based in Warwick) is a proud sponsor of local rugby team, Claverdon RFC.

This spring the whole Banana Moon network is delighted to support Duncan Nealon from Claverdon RFC (and also Banana Moon Harbury Director), who is raising money for Meningitis Now by running the London Marathon on 26th April in memory of Barney Adlington, who died from meningitis when he was three and a half years old.

Duncan and Rod, Barney’s dad, have played together at Claverdon RFC for many years, with Rod being a former captain – and the team has fond memories of Barney running around the clubhouse. Today Barney would have been 18 years old. This video shows a little more of Barney’s story.

Not only is he running the London Marathon, Duncan is also looking to break the world record for the fastest marathon run in full rugby kit! That means wearing our Banana-Moon-branded rugby top…and also shorts, socks, scrum cap and mouthguard – plus he also has to carry a rugby ball (mercifully, he is not required to wear the studded rugby boots!)! The current Guinness world record is 3 hours 14 minutes.

About Meningitis Now

The Adlington family has been partnered with Meningitis Now since 2005. Meningitis Now is the first meningitis patient group in the world, founders of the meningitis movement and the only charity dedicated to fighting meningitis in the UK. Over a 30-year history, the charity has invested over £12m in early stage research that has played a critical part in the introduction of five life-saving vaccines.

Find out more about them, and the symptoms of meningitis, via their website.

Showing our support!

At Banana Moon we are delighted to support Duncan’s world-record attempt – not only by donating but also by spreading the word on social media and via posters in our nurseries. If you too wish to make a donation, please click here.

Good luck, Duncan – we’re all behind you!
